How to Manage Your Credit Status When You Are Threatened by Collection Agencies

A good number of collectors can be very crude when they try to get you to pay a debt. The reason is because of the commission that staffs of such agencies are paid when they are able to get a consumer to pay the largest possible amount from a debt. NCO financial is an example of such. It is one of the biggest third party debt buyers out there. They buy millions of unpaid accounts every year from creditors at a price that can be considered extremely lower than its exact value and try to get debtors of such accounts to pay up. This is how they make their profit; this is how they stay in business.

And because of the commission which staff are paid when they're able to manipulate a debtor into paying most of the debt, some of them resort to using crude and coercive tactics to get you to pay. Why on earth should someone threaten you on the other side of the phone that you'd lose your house or car when he isn't the person who sold it to you or gave you the credit to obtain it in the first place? And why should you pay the exact amount of the debt you owe to a collector when your original creditor has recorded a charge-off on your credit report because of your inability to pay.

If at all you must pay the collector, at least for the sake of removing a collection account from your file, then you're not obligated to pay the exact amount, and you should even negotiate that they write an agreement to remove the collection account from your file in exchange for the payment.

After all, what's the benefit to you if you pay the money and still wind up with the collection and the charge-off placed on your account?
